Winter is Coming

Written on 06.10.26 by Xinyi Xu

Dear all,

Welcome to the new course for the Bachelor and Master seminar in the winter term.
Please switch to this course.

Best wishes,

BAMA Seminar Team

Bachelor- and Master-Seminar

The bachelor/master seminar is a stage for all talks related to bachelor or master theses at CISPA.

Starting with the Winter Semester (Oct 2026), we will try a new style for the seminar course. The main idea is to have students introduce their theses in a larger in-person poster session.

We sincerely encourage everyone to drop by, even if you are not a speaker – we may prepare snacks for you.

Poster Session Format

  1. A poster session is held at the beginning, middle, and end of each semester and once in the break between semesters.
  2. Students preparing to do theses will bring and present a poster introducing their thesis at this poster session.
  3. Advisors attend the poster session to interact at least with students’ posters in their groups. Students are graded by the advisor based on:
  1. the poster,
  2. the poster defense, and
  3. the thesis proposal material.

Further notes:

  1. If a student really needs to start their thesis as soon as possible, presenting the prepared poster individually to the advisor can kick off the thesis.
  2. The physical poster session alternates between Saarbrücken and St. Ingbert CISPA buildings.
  1. CISPA C0: Stuhlsatzenhaus 5, 66123 Saarbrücken
  2. CISPA D1: Kaiserstraße 21, 66386 St. Ingbert, Germany
  1. After the poster session, each student receives a graded certificate (Schein) that is required to register their thesis. Ask your advisor for this certificate and/or have them reach out to bamaseminar@cispa.saarland for details.
  1. Important: Final talks not a part of the this seminar any more. Final talks are now held as a separate colloquium within each research group and should be scheduled by the students and their advisors directly and independently.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I make a poster?

The materials section on the CMS page contains example poster templates. Attend a poster session to get a feel for what works and what doesn't. :)

How do I print my poster?

The university library (SULB Fotostelle) offers printing services for students. You can print your poster in portrait or landscape format. On-site we'll have stand-up displays for DIN A0 posters. Smaller poster sizes might also work fine.

Do I have to pay for printing?

Unfortunately, poster printing is not something that the seminar / CISPA can provide. Your advisor might be able to reimburse your printing cost for the seminar.

How do I register for a session and submit my poster?

To register for a session, you should:

  1. Fill in your poster information at https://forms.gle/KT9eUnq8NbsB8Wxe9
  • If you haven't found the corresponding session, then the time of this session has not yet been determined. Please send an email to  bamaseminar@cispa.saarland  or check again later.
  1. Submit your poster as a PDF in CMS course->Personal Status->Submissions->” POSTER: Please submit your poster file“ no later than one week before your session.
  2. We will send you a verification/confirmation email one week before your session

To list your poster in the announcement, you will have to hand in some information about it, namely:

  • Speaker: Your name.
  • Type of poster: Bachelor Intro or Master Intro
  • Advisor: Please provide the name of your advisor.
  • Title: Title of your work.
  • Research Area: the number of your area. (In doubt, check https://cispa.de/en/research or ask your advisor) The areas are the following:
    • RA1: Algorithmic Foundations and Cryptography
    • RA2: Trustworthy Information Processing
    • RA3: Reliable Security Guarantees
    • RA4: Threat Detection and Defenses
    • RA5: Secure Mobile and Autonomous Systems
    • RA6: Empirical and Behavioural Security
    • RA7: Others
  • Abstract: An abstract introducing your work.

Refer to previous announcements for examples. Please kindly ensure that each value is in a separate line, not multiple lines, except for the abstract, as it will be automatically parsed.

What will the timeline for poster submission be?

Please submit your poster one week before the poster session via CMS. This should give you enough time to handle printing without being in a rush.

Wait, I have a different question: who can I talk to?

Please email alexi.turcotte@cispa.de with any further questions.
