Please ensure that you register for the seminar in LSF and inform us if you experience any difficulties.
We have also uploaded reading materials to the CMS. You are encouraged to review them; however, a detailed knowledge is not required for the next session. The materials serve as an introduction and provide helpful context for the topics we will address.

Content

In this seminar, you will learn about empirical methods used to research the human factor in security and privacy.
The seminar will consist of introductory lessons on various types of research methods, i.e., qualitative and quantitative methods.
We will host hands-on sessions where you get to apply some discussed methods in practice. You are expected to read accompanying scientific literature to prepare for the hands-on sessions and your home assignment.
You will be required to develop your own methodology and write a proposal describing and explaining it. Your proposal will be graded alongside an interactive discussion.

 

Time & Location

The seminar kick-off will be on the 25 April 2025.
The following in-person meetings will be on Fridays at 10am c.t. as indicated in the table below.

Location: Building E9 1CISPA C0, Stuhlsatzenhaus 5, 66123 Saarbrücken.

 

Grading

Your grading will be a combination of:

  • Attendance (full attendance minus one gives total points)
  • Contribution to the discussions and hands-on sessions
  • Home assignment 
  • Discussion of your assignment

You are not allowed to use LLMs (such as ChatGPT) for graded assignments.
