Dear students of the ICS Security seminar,

as announced in the last session, I will be available for another optional seminar session tomorrow to discuss the content of the seminar further. (Non-)Participation will not have an impact on your grade. We will use the same zoom link as made availabe in the materials collection here on CMS.

Please make sure to hand in your presentation slides via the submission feature on CMS soon (deadline 16.2.23). You still have about a week to finalize your written discussion of the two papers. If there are more questions on that, let me know in tomorrow's session, or via mail.

If you didn't provide feedback on the presentations by other students to me via mail so far, please do this in the next days as well.

Thanks to everyone who provided the information and requested material already. Good luck for your exams!

Cheers,

Nils

Dear students of the ICS Security seminar,

I was asked for clarifications related to remaining deliverables (i.e. the summary/discussion of your two papers). We can discuss more in the call tomorrow, main points are:

- I opened a "submission" item here on CMS where you can upload your summary PDF. I tentatively put a Feb 22 deadline for the summary. We can discuss tomorrow if you need more time for the summary. I can also answer other related questions, if there are any.
- Please note there are also submission entries for the slides of the two presentations that you gave. I tentatively put a deadline of Feb 15 for the slides. You just need to provide the slides as you presented them (in PDF, please contact me if there is an issue).
- You will receive grade details and feedback from me via CMS.

Please don't hesitate to ask me (tippenhauer@cispa.de) if there are any remaining questions.

Cheers,
Nils

Dear students in the ICS Security Seminar,

I (Nils Ole Tippenhauer) am replacing Hamid as instructor of this seminar. I am looking forward to discussing this exciting topic in the upcoming sessions! I will try to minimize any changes to the format and content of this seminar -- I am very familiar with the research topics discussed (e.g. Hamid was my PhD student). More details will be provided in our next seminar on Wednesday.

From this Wednesday Feb 8 onwards the seminar will held via zoom (12pm sharp), with a new zoom link:
see Link in Materials Collection
Please disregard the previous news announcing an in-person only meeting (I will remove it to avoid misunderstandings). If anyone prefers meeting in person, please let me know via mail to tippenhauer@cispa.de, and I will accomodate this.

@ Kiran, John und Sagar: you are still expected to present this Wednesday on the zoom call. Please let me know asap if there are any problems with this.

@the auditors for Kiran, John und Sagar: you are still expected to ask the questions, the format stays the same.

Please contact me at tippenhauer@cispa.de with any other questions.

Looking forward to seeing all of you in the call on Wednesday,

Nils

Industrial Control Systems Security

Industrial control systems (ICS) are a class of cyber-physical
systems (CPS) that typically consist of industrial controllers sensing and actuating safety-critical ap-
plications, e.g., the power grid, water treatment plants, and factory automation The Next Generation
of Internet-of-Things (NGIoT) is responsible for critical applications such as home and office security,
Industrial Control Systems (ICS), Internet-of-Things (IoT), transportation, manufacturing, infras-
tructure, medical, and so on. The Internet-of-Everything (IoE) will cover a wide range of daily life
applications with a focus on edge in the time of ongoing decentralization. However, the safety and
security of these systems are still in a gray state, and the world-wide threat against these systems
could compromise our daily life applications.
This seminar is meant to provide students with an overview of recent advances in industrial control
systems security. We will discuss the classic and state-of-the-art papers of industrial control systems
security during this seminar.
