Dear Students,

the registration period for the re-exam is over and we have seated all participants in the GHH (AudiMo), you will find the seat key in the materials section.

The exam is next Monday 06.09.21, from 10:00 to 12:00. We expect to start on time so make sure to be at the GGH at least 10 min ahead of time. The same modalities as for the main exam apply: in addition to the exam packing list (1 cheat sheet A4 front and back, non-programmable calculator, student ID and ID), please mind that you are not allowed to use any additional materials, in particular smart phones. The only exception from this are English dictionaries. You are allowed to answer the exam questions in either German or English. The exam will end at 12:00, and in the last 30 minutes (i.e. after 11:30) you will not be allowed anymore to hand in your exam early and leave.

Also mind that the same corona rules apply as for the main-exam:

Read the following points carefully, taken from the university's corona FAQ (https://www.uni-saarland.de/en/page/coronavirus/faq.html)

  1. Medical Face Masks
It is compulsory to wear medical face masks when moving around within buildings - except when a justified medical certificate is presented. It is thus absolutely necessary for you to bring your own protection mask with you.
  2. What do you have to consider if you have flu-like symptoms?

In light of the current infection rates in Saarland, persons who have not recently come into contact with someone with a known or suspected SARS-CoV-2 infection and who are showing only mild signs of illness (e.g. a runny nose and feeling only mildly incapacitated) may visit Saarland University sites. The same applies to people who have a known history of exhibiting similar symptoms due to a pre-existing condition, such as hay fever or a pollen allergy. Please refer to the check list for flu-like symptoms

If, however, a person is feeling seriously unwell, particularly if they are displaying respiratory and/or flu symptoms or other symptoms relevant to COVID-19, they must stay at home and, when necessary, consult a doctor (initially by phone).

  3. Do you have to get tested?
We strongly advise you to participate in in-person meetings/events with the participants physically present on site only if you have tested negative for the coronavirus (Note: The test result may not be older than 24 hours). An exception to this is participation in face-to-face classes, including (block) seminars and exams, here only people who are tested twice a week should participate. If a person has not been tested, this may not lead to their exclusion from the in-person meeting/event. Testing is subject to Section 5a of the Ordinance on Combating the Coronavirus Pandemic (VO-CP of 7 July 2021). The test result is to be certified by the body carrying out the test.

Good luck, stay healthy, and all the Best!

On Quiz 6 there was an issue with Question 3 as brought up on the Discord. We have removed the points from this exercise and your achieved points will be attributed as bonus points. We've had some issues doing this technically on moodle, so expect the points to either show up there next week or we will count it towards your total in the end of the semester.

The new exercise sheet will include an old exam question again, as you seemed to like that :) It also taps into MACs with one question. While the definitions you've learned are enough, in case of uncertainty it might help to wait for the Tuesday lecture for more examples of usage.

I wish you a sunny weekend,
Stella

Dear Students,

the number of hand-ins this week is rather low, so I'm bringing to your attention that we put a modified old exam question on the sheet, you may want to give that one a shot, if you do any task at all this week :)

Also we had to again change the grading of our quiz. The correct answer to question 5 would have been sqrt(2^n), which I put in as sqrt(n) as a typo, so we took this question out of grading as the "correct" answer is quite ambiguous. Sorry for the inconvenience.

For the definition of collissions in the exam please note, that we consider /sets/ that is if the unordered pair (w,x) is a collission i.e. H(w)=H(x), then H(x)=H(w) too, but (x,w) counts as the same collisison as (w,x) in our books. Because that wasn't super clear prior to the test, we have accepted answers that took this as two different collisions this time!
