Exams

General Information

The exams were written and held in person. You had to write your solutions on paper using a black or blue pen. Paper was provided.

All material covered in the lectures, slides, exercises, and required reading was relevant to the exam. The exam was closed book, meaning that you were not allowed to bring or consult any of these to the exam. We did allow you to bring a single sheet of A4 of your own handwritten notes as a cheat sheet.

To be eligible to take the exam you had to have cumulatively scored 50% of the points for the theoretical exercises and 50% of the points for the practical exercises.

To participate in the exams, you had to register at least one week before the exam on both CMS and LSF/HISPOS. Erasmus students, students in non-CS programmes, as well as students in certain 'new' BSc/MSc programmes could not register in LSF, and are hence were allowed to only do so in CMS. For them, we issued grade certificates (i.e. a 'Schein') upon passing the course. Only students who were eligible and registered (via LSF and/or CMS) were allowed to take the exam.

The final grade was the best grade obtained in either of the two exams. If this is a passing grade (4.0 or better) every three bonus points you collected through the assignments will improve your final grade by 1/3rd, up to the best possible final grade of 1.0. As an example, if you scored a 3.7 in the first exam, a 3.3 in the re-exam, and scored 5 bonus points, your final grade would have been a 3.0.
